As politicians continue to bicker in a world living through yet another wave of extreme weather events fueled by climate change, unexpected breaking news from the remote and barren part of the Antarctic —

This is not an actual news lede or the beginning of a Hollywood movie trailer, but the premise of Plant B, an educational simulation game for journalists covering science and environment. In the game, players will have to join forces and tackle a complex and rapidly developing news story in a competitive media environment. The game explores how journalists are interacting with stories at the intersection of climate science, policy and politics, and technology.

Be among the first players to test the new game in an online session for European journalists, made possible by the EFSJ. The test session will be run and moderated by Olga Dobrovidova, climate science communicator and the former vice-president of the Federation, who designed and developed the game.

Register for the free event on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 16:30 CET here. (Please note the date has been changed due to technical issues.)

This is the second event in a series of online webinars, discussions, and training sessions exploring responsible science journalism on proposed technological solutions for the climate crisis, curated by Olga Dobrovidova, the former vice-president of EFSJ. The first webinar, where science journalist and Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism fellow Rebekah White presented her fellowship paper on reporting on “climate interventions” or “climate repair”, took place in November; a recording and webinar materials are available on the EFSJ events page.
