Kick off the New Year with Inspiration: Online Workshop with Europe’s Top Science Journalists! 🌟

Need some inspiration to start the new year? Join us for a special Zoom session with the winners of the European Science Journalist of the Year 2025! This session is open to all member associations of the European Federation for Science Journalism. The awardees will present their outstanding journalistic projects and will be available to answer questions and discuss their work after the presentations.

It will take place on Jan 9th from 11 AM to 12:30 CET.

Meet the winners:

1st Helen Pearson (Nature, UK) – awarded for three outstanding features that explore the role of scientific evidence in policy and society, the potential of AI to analyze research, and how science can influence public opinion and elections. Her work combines in-depth reporting, clear storytelling, and a focus on the global relevance of scientific evidence.

2nd Michael Peel (Financial Times, UK) – recognized for visually rich and deeply reported projects that make complex science accessible. Highlights include reporting on the global fight against mosquito-borne diseases under climate change, the rise of AI-driven robotics and “large behaviour models,” and pioneering digital treatments for mental health, all conveyed through videos, interactive storytelling, and illustrations.

3rd Jonas Reese & Christopher Weingart (Germany) – honored for their investigative reporting on denialism and disinformation. Their work includes the AIDS Denialists podcast series (Deutschlandfunk), articles on the social impact of AIDS denial, and coverage of climate change denial, highlighting how misinformation spreads and affects public policy and society.

The award celebrates excellence and innovation in European science journalism, with nominations coming from national associations as well as individuals.

The session will be moderated by Dr. Astrid Viciano, EFSJ Vice-President and member of the WPK board.
