Get ready to contribute to the next European Conference of Science Journalism, which will take place in Hanover, Germany, from 14 to 16 October 2026. It will be held alongside the annual WPK Wissenswerte conference.
The main topic of ECSJ2026 will be “Science Journalism for a World in Crisis”.
From pandemics to climate change, from water scarcity and wildfires to shrinking access to essential medicines, science journalists are tasked with covering crises while uncovering solutions, highlighting societal transformations, holding power to account, and helping societies navigate a world in turmoil.
ECSJ26 will set the stage for exploring how science journalists can respond to global turbulence with rigor, creativity, and impact.
The programme will be organised around three subtracks :
- Trust & Accountability
Science journalism must maintain trust in an age of disinformation and polarisation. This track explores the responsibility of journalists to hold power to account, communicate evidence clearly, and strengthen democratic values during times of crisis.
- Connections & Communities
Science journalism thrives when it crosses borders — geographic, disciplinary, and cultural. This track highlights collaboration, community engagement, and the power of shared voices in tackling global challenges.
- Craft & Change
Science journalism is both a craft rooted in tradition and a field in constant transformation. This track focuses on developing core reporting skills while embracing innovation and change to meet the demands of today’s media landscape.
The call of proposals will open in January 2026.
The organising committee is seeking ideas for panel discussions, workshops and other creative sessions. Gather your best insights on science journalism and ensure you are subscribed to the EFSJ newsletter to stay informed.
In the meantime, if you would like to suggest a speaker for our conference, please email us their name, organisation and contact details, along with the relevant subtrack, by 15 December 2025.
