What happens when you put some 220 science journalists and communicators together? Then you get a wonderful conference! And we knew it. Tuesday 12 July 2022 was the day, after a year of arranging, organising and looking for sponsors: the European Conference of Science Journalism 2022 in Leiden was a fact.
Together with the excursions in the two days leading up to the conference, it was a great success. During the sessions, you did not find science journalists running loose and bored in corridors. No, everyone sat in the classrooms in Leiden University’s Kamerlingh Onnes building. Outsiders reacted with surprise and comments like: never seen an audience so engaged!
The latter, of course, was because it was a great programme, and perhaps also a little bit because we haven’t had a science journalism professional conference for four years.
The Dutch science journalism association VWN was main organiser of the event, together with the EFSJ and many others who were so kind to lend a hand.
